Evening of two halves
Took my dad to the field this evening, with a car full of models.
Radjet
Glider
Two 250 quads
Goblin 570
Started with the radjet.
It was going well, until i went inverted. The battery fell out
Even with two elastic bands holding the canopy on, it managed to slip out the back.
No damage, as the plane weighs nothing, so it just floated down in a flat spin.
When we found the battery, it had a slight dent in it, but nothing terminal.
Next was the Goblin.
Took off, then suddenly it was as if the cyclic gains was too high.
I started getting intermittent shakes in hover.
I landed, checked everything I could, but found nothing.
Tried again, and it seemed to be ok. Flew around a bit. Gentle flying, bit inverted, and a couple of piroflips.
Everything seemed ok.
Then I took it up fo a second flight, and the same thing happened again.
So its grounded, until i find the problem.
Next I took up the quads. Not much to say there. They flew great.
Lastly the Easy glider. Got my dad on the controls.
He's never flown before, but after a few goes, he made a few full circuits, without needing my input.
So half good and half bad evening. I'm just happy the Goblin is still in one piece.

Re: Evening of two halves
Well the title is right anyway Lee... Lol, pleased that Gobby is ok though, I'm sure you will sort that out before it goes up again. Did your dad not have a go at a quad flying LOS.. Pretty easy those, even for me...lol
Good you both got out for the day anyway...

Re: Evening of two halves
Good for getting out there with your dad. And cool that he picked up on things quickly enough to fly some circuits like that. We have people at my club that have been "training" for years and still crash regularly doing nothing but flying around upright.
My dad hasn't shown interest in flying anything yet, but he likes to come out and watch now and then.
Gob 570. Odd. Check all the screws, including servo mounting screws. When I had servo mount plate screws back out, it demonstrated a wobble that came. When it came fully loose it was a handful to get down without crashing. Make sure the blade grips aren't loose and the dampers aren't worn. I wouldn't expect a loose main shaft to cause that issue, but worth a check as well.

Re: Evening of two halves
Well I had a check last night before going to bed.
What I found/hope is the answer.
There are 4 pillars, that go between the top and bottom plates of the drive system.
Two pillars on opposite sides were ever so slightly loose. Less than 1mm play.
This was enough to transfer slop to the blades, causing the intermittent wobble.
I use to get this on my MCPX when the head started getting excessive play in it.
Lets hope this was the answer, but i won't get to check for a few days, as the rain has arrived
Edit: looks good tomorrow

Re: Evening of two halves
Everything back to normal
Flew two flights today. Smooth as.
Amazing what two very slightly loose screws can do to handling.

Goblin is sorted already Derek.
Just those two screws were the issue.
