Zeal 210mm for Trex 250

Post by KevG »

Well I have had a little time to have a look at these blades, and yes they look the business but the do have a couple of little blemishes, but realy nowt to write home about, they came boxed in a clear plastic sheath with a card back, and the blades were wrapped in a thin foam sheet, so have to say it's nice to see a bit of care,

Well here's the first look outside of the packaging,

They have a nice design on the top but man the shimmery logo on the bottom is nice,

And here is a side by side of them to the stock blades, as you can see the stock blades have more chord close to the root but a quite small amount less at the tip.

A few stats now,

These new blades weigh 19.57g where the stock actually weigh 17.42g

The next thing I looked at was the CoG and this on the new blades is 110mm from hole, on the old they were 95mm from hole,

The balance of these blades is nigh on smack on, impressed fair play, it don't happen on many sets,

Next will be flying them, and more to report then......

Yeah a bit small for a coffin, seen as that would raise the weight for shipping considerably, and they are going to want to be competitive against the oem blades price wise,

Not sure how the extra weight towards the tip will make these feel, I know it's down to the chord of the stock blades being wider, but that's where the blade is less effective anyway, if the weather holds off I might try to get a flight in on them tomorrow

One thing i have noticed, the same with my 550 (RHP) the blades come pre-balanced and they are the cheapest on the market-ish:) Leading manufactures pay attention:)

Helps more for the fbl controller and stability. The heaver blade will help with stability also. Its almost like fly bar weights.

Yeah I'm looking forward to trying these, stability is good for me, but the thing in the back of my mind is they produce these blades to do bad ass 3d, so don't quite know what to expect.

Just read a review over on the Zeal threads by another tester, and he really liked them said there was a huge difference, much lighter feel to the heli, and snappier in transactions, plus they sound nicer, I'm sold, I got to fly these things

Please behave Mother Nature, nice fine day tomorrow, come on!

That extra weight adds to the disk loading also. Heavier loading nets crisper 3d moves.

Well I said I would update this after I flew them,

First the sound, they actually sound really crisp, where as the stock blades sound a bit more turbulent,

First impression,
Put the heli in the air and first thing I noticed was the balance of the blades gave no visible vibe on spool up or run down,
In to the hover and they felt really stable, disc could be more visible on top side, need more white colour or something brighter than the green,
How do they fly, well surprisingly good actually they change direction very sharply and quick, but they can be subtle as well, with the stock blades they used to stall easy, these Zeals did not tend to do it, pitch changes were awesome, and even when neg to positive change it seemed to cope a lot better with it, and even at 85% throttle it still took off like a scolded cat, although I had to reduce my cyclic gain a tad to stop the cyclic wobble after a hard pitch change,

Overall

I seriously liked these out of the box, they felt sharp without being frightening but had the ability to be incredibly stable, they almost felt like they made the heli lighter,
like I said the only down point I could find was the disc visibility could be better,

I recon a good 9 out of 10, seriously better than stock,

Very good review of the blades Kev. I'm going to put better blades on my mongrel 450, so these zeal one sound like a first choice. Did you get them from UK stockist?

Found a shop in UK but they only have red and green....!!

Yes that's the only UK stockist, not sure if you can get another colour in the 325mm blades,

Shame about the colours, not sure I would see the disk too well with red or green, would be interesting to see what their like outside Kev when you get the chance mate.
