Sinister 770 Quad Build

Post by Derek »

770mm Super Class Quad

four 3530-11 400kv T Motor motors (BuddyRC.com)
four Little Bee 40amp D Shot 2-6S esc's (HeliDirect.com)
KISS flight controller (GetFPV.com)
three blade 15x7 Master Airscrew props (MasterAirscrew.com)
5v Step Down Regulator (GetFPV.com)
ImmersionRC 5.8ghz FPV (already have)
Runcam Swift 600tvl fpv camera (hobbyking.com)
two 6S 4000mah 45C Glacier LiPo's (BuddyRC.com)

I don't have any pictures of the build, as of yet, but I'm at a point that I can simply take the frame apart and snap some shots before I progress too much farther.

However, I do have a picture of the awesome 15" props that I ordered. I put my Shuriken 180 next to the prop for comparison.....WOW!!! These props are just massive....and I have 4 of them, lmao!

I should be able to start fiberglassing the frame this afternoon. Once its been glassed, I'll get it sanded and reassembled. Then...it will be time to add the electronics that ive bought

As usual, my personal life interrupted my "workshop time", lol, but I was able to get the underside of the bottom plate glassed. I'm not a master fiberglasser but I'm happy with what I did get done. I put a Mountain Dew can in the picture for size reference.

Re: Sinister 770 Quad Build

I spoke with Clay, quite some time ago, and he strongly suggested me getting a KISS flight controller. So, I did. It's currently sitting in my 'parts bin' until I'm ready to install it. However, I was just thinking......

What I like to do is to be able to fly this build as if it were any other quad but I'd also like to have a servo oriented, either on the side or inside the frame, to allow for a cargo dropper. So, this makes me ask...can I run the KISS FC with an 8 channel DSMX receiver (PWM, I think)? I'd like to see the receiver inside the frame and have a servo in Port 7 for my AUX2 switch.

Can this be done?

So, I was just checking out the description for the KISS flight controller and I see this:

Supported RX Types: PPM Sum, Spektrum Sat. (serial / DSM2 & DSMX), Futaba / Taranis SBUS, Jeti ExBus, Graupner SumD / SumO, classic RX with single channel output

Now, that last bit that says, "classic RX with single channel output"...would that be using the KISS FC with a full rx and each channel is connected to its own port on the rx?

Well, I think this will work. Now I just need to make sense of all the hook ups. Each board always looks confusing to me, at first, but I'm sure I'll get it sorted.

Ok, question time....On the KISS FC, there are several solder pads. Several say PWM 1-6. I'm assuming the esc wires go to those. Some of the other pads are labeled for pitch, roll, yaw, aux1, aux2 and the throttle pads are somewhere on there. I'm assuming that I can make up a 3 wire extension with a servo connector on one side. The bare wires would then be soldered to the pads for throttle, pitch, roll, yaw, aux1, aux2, etc.....then the end of that extension with the servo connector would then connect to my 8 channel receiver for a completed PWM hook up. Is this correct?

Also, since my esc's are OPTO, what powers my rx? I understand that the KISS FC has a built in BEC, too cool. Would the built in BEC power the esc's and then I'd have to use some wire to pull power from the fc to the rx? Would I be better off to include a PDB?

All thats left is to cut the slots for the two 6S packs, double check the KISS gui to be sure that my settings are right, then hover test.

I do have some three blade 15" props but they will need to be mod'd ao that they fit the supplied motor shaft. So, i put on the 15x7 CF props for now.

looks well built mate, but afraid you'll get a lot of prop wash loss because of the size of your arms, to much material blocking air flow,

I have to agree with you, Kev! I didnt think about that when i was drawing up the frame. Im getting a lot of negative comments, on Facebook, about that very fact. This build is my first big build. I cant be expected to build a "pro" model on the first run. Im gonna push on with this build, especially considering its 98% done. I'll fly it (hopefully) and im already considering changes for v2.

An oversight....all my motor shafts have the same thread direction, instead of two CW and two CCW threads. To be assured the props stay put....would locktite be acceptable or should i search for some nylock nuts?
