Battery grew

Post by DOG »

Hey there. I just soldered EC3 connectors to 2 brand new Gen ace battery this evening. As I was wrapping electrical tape on the batteries I've notice that one of the batteries wasn't right. One of the batteries grew in size in front of me. Immediately I threw the battery outside. I grab my camera and took a picture. The bad battery is on the left. Has this ever happen to anyone else?

Looks like you have a bad one, potential fire here so leave it outside:( i would bin it. My charger can tell me the condition of each cell through resistance.
At the end of the day is the risk of keeping it worth the outcome?

Thank you gentlemen for you feed back. Yeah they are good batteries. I never had problems with them before except this time. Very strange watching it grow. I already have it soaking in salt water since last night after a quick discharge with a spot light bulb. I already had one incident with a battery in my house catching fire and didn't want to take the chance with another. I can't find my receipt so I consider this as a cheap loss compare to a fire in the house.

Was there any chance it shorted out during the mounting of the EC3 plug some how DOG?
Unlucky, but as you say, better than a burnt house.

Hey there Lee. No I do one lead at a time. I'll cut the first lead, strip it, solder it then push the soldered lead into the ESC casing til it pops. The other lead the hole time is in its contain casing. Once I have the first lead secure in the ESC casing I will then tape it to the battery so when I cut the other lead, it wont have no chance to touch the other one. I just think that I was unlucky to get a bad new battery but lucky it didn't do no damage.
