Got an email today from a woman at my work saying she was told i was the go to guy for drones............i hate that word.
Anyhoo, her husband has just bought her a DJI Phantom 4!!!????
No flying experience at all EVER!!
I sent her a very long email on do,s donts, and general advice including CAA Flying rules, and ultimately offering my services.
At least she had the sense to ask, more than can be said for her husband and random gifts.
I am not well off, so i struggle to understand how someone can afford to purchase such an expensive piece of kit as a random gift.
This had flyaway written all over it!!
She knows what flyaway means:) NOW she has been educated!!

Re: GOBSMACKED!!!!!
Funny thing, I got a phone call today asking a very similar thing.
This guy is an amateur hobby photographer and an auto electrician so he is not stupid.
First thing I told him is leave it in the box and go buy a toy to learn with.
Something that was autolevel only, no GPS or RTH or any other type of automation.
Even a tiny one to fly indoors to give him stick time and orientation practice.
After telling him about the many DJI flyawy stories we see on a regular basis he has agreed that this is probably a sensible thing to do.
I suggested he get the instructions out of the box and learn the DJI calibration dance and what all the light patterns mean.
I suggested he not even charge a battery until he had flown the toy for at least couple of weeks.
Hopefully he will listen, I think he will.
