Crash of my 4S FT Bloody Wonder, lol

Post by Derek »

I built this plane with aspirations of flying it on 6S. It has a mini quad motor, that is 6S capable, on the front with a good 6S esc. I've flown this plane several times on 3S and it just flies straight and true. This was the first flight that I've tried 4S. I still have to order a few small 6S packs. I think the crash was a result of being nose heavy and just not enough "up elevator travel."

Oh well....they all can't come home unscathed, lol. Minor repairs needed. This one will be back soon!

Yeah...unlucky. I think the foamboard elevator just isnt strong enough for those speeds. Ive repaired the plane already and I'm gonna add a balsa elevator before the next flight. That should help.

I've made just mod's to the Bloody Wonder. I gotta find that picture that I took, but anyway....I cut off the foamboard elevator and added a balsa elevator. I added a much more solid control horn to the elevator. The previous control horn was pretty weak, to be honest. I've added two 12" strips of carbon fiber that run from the middle of the wing to just before the elevator. I did this to help make the tail of the plane more rigid. I added two short sections of bamboo skewer to each of the vertical stabs and they connect with the rear part of the plane. I did this to help reinforce the two vertical stabs. Then, I also inserted some tooth picks to each of the foam ailerons. I did this just to help reinforce and strengthen each aileron.

I cut off and rebuilt the nose of the Bloody Wonder a few days ago. So, this plane is now ready to try 4S again.

That sounds as if it may be more rigid:)
