FPV Goggle Caution!!

Post by Stambo »

Like it says, here is a caution to all you FPV fliers or potential FPV fliers.
Don't leave your goggles in direct sun.
I have damaged my Fatshark predators by doing this.
Now in the left screen there is a small but annoying dot on the lower left.
Initially I thought it was a speck of dirt or dust inside the goggles.
I took them apart and found very little, cleaned and reassembled them and it was still the same.
I then started checking online and found this is classic sun damage.
I decided I would fix it myself, went to order another screen but they will not sell it to me.
I was told to send them to Australia for repair.
I cannot do without them for that long so I will wait until I can afford another pair.
Then I can send them for repair or just use them for spectator flights.

I`m always very careful not to let the lenses point towards the sun.
I do have I tiny speck in one lens, that i think is dirt. Hope it is, and not sun damage :(

I remember being very careful with my Fatsharks, not to let the sun get to the lenses. I think I remember seeing that "caution" in the manual/instructions.

So is it looking at the sun with them on or the sun getting to the lens if they are left lying exposed to the sun?

The sun directly on the lenses.
The lenses act as magnifying glasses directing the sun to a spot on the screen and burning it.
Mine have only a small spot but enough to annoy the heck out of me.

That's ok. I was just a bit concerned that it was on the outside shell:)
