That's great to hear that you've located a new motor! I hope it gets to you quickly so that you can get back in the air! :D

I don't know why your shaft broke Dustin, but preventative measures are better than cures... Make sure all metal to metal bolts are locktited in. Check everything that has a bolt/nut on it and make sure they are at the right torque... Allow the locktite to set, don't go flying as soon as you've built it up. My locktite recommends 24hrs setting time... Don't be impatient. The 450 can be an extremely dangerous craft if it's not maintained correctly, I'm sure you know all this.... That's my pennies worth for now...lol

Excellent news Dustin, and I'm pleased your taking your time with the checks etc.... Did you see any issues with the tail when you spooled it up... Did it hold?

Dustin..can you get some video? I'd like to see if we can determine why it's tipping over.

My advice is to get it up in the air with purpose when taking off. Do not be ginger with it. Don't try to lift off slow. Give it some stick and get it off the ground a good couple feet deliberately. Being slow with it, or dragging it around on the ground only really works if you're on asphalt or hard pack dirt, and then only with training arms attached to the skids. Advanced fliers can do ground maneuvers, but it takes a great deal of precise control and familiarity with the setup. When still learning the ropes, best to get altitude smartly.

When landing, get it in a good stable hover and set it down. Again, smooth and direct. You don't need to be hyper gentle setting it down. You don't want to plant it in too hard, but too delicate and you're risking tip overs and other nonsense. Once it touches down, cut throttle and move collective to down stick (in that order!). This will plant it, bleed off headspeed quick, and keep it from getting caught in any wind and tipping over. If you're landing in grass or other "bumpy" terrain, choose your landing spot carefully. Find as wide an area as you can that is relatively flat and bump free.

Have you replaced the main gear now Dustin, a video would be a great help. If you can video every flight for now until the problems are sorted out at least... Get the training gear back on it and find a smooth surface like Paul said..

This might help with ground terrain. We use a portable taking off & landing pad to fly our birds. The terrain that we fly at is not friendly to our heli so a piece of carpet, 4x8, is what we are using. When my landing improves, i will purchased 3x3 1/16th thick plexiglas to use instead the carpet.

My home field is mostly dirt & clay... This might be a good idea for me.. The nitro gets nasty, after the first flight she is covered w fuel & the dirt gets everywhere.. especially the skids.. Humm.. But... Could be good for Dustins situation too.. Good suggestion Dog!
