I took my top and bottom plates to work with me last night, borrowed some files off one of the engineers and cleaned up the frame ready for fitting the booms.

It's starting to look like a real quad at last.

couldn't resist test fitting one of the motors to see if the mounting hardware will work with the carbon fiber mounts.

I've started too cut the carbon plates today, i printed a new version of the illustrator file (a couple more slots added), cut them out and stuck them to the carbon sheet using kids glue stick, lining them up with the machine cut corners.

Once this was done i roughly cut the 2 plates out using a small circular saw. Then i lined a metal straight edge up with the marker lines of the print out and finished it off with a hand drill and sanding bobbin. Here are the results.

Im very happy with the results, they are not absolutely prefect but they are pretty close.

Each plate weighs in at 57g before i do any more machining.

I have stuck the 2 plates together with some double sided tape in preparation for drilling the standoff holes as they match on both plates.

quick update, ive ordered some more parts the build, a flip32+ (barometer and magnatometer) the same as a full naze, i just prefer the pin layout, minim OSD and a crius neo-06 gps module. ive also sorted the video side of the project out with one of those mini sony 600tvl cameras in the plastic case, a tf 952 200mw vtx and a couple of sma to sma bulk head cables

i thought about blue tooth, but as pid tuning can be done through the osd i dont think that theres much point really, some of the stuff will be here in a few days and some is on a slow boat from china

I was planning another build anyway tony ive had my eye on a blackout 330 frame for a while but thought why not try building my own frame. so the electronics would have had to be purchased anyway.

Thanks Graham, I want this build to take my multirotor knowledge to the next level, hence me installing osd with gps. I also what to install blackbox on this quad, for those of you who dont know what blackbox is flight data logging. Heres a video from borisb with blackbox over layed on the flight footage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VQdgIN8fzY

I think that blackbox will be an interesting tool to work with when tuning pids.

another quick update.

Ive made a start on machining the two carbon plates, and the speedies arrived today.

The bottom plate is finished, the top plate needs slots cutting and a 6mm hole for the sma bulkhead fitting, im hoping to get the machining finished and plates cleaned up for weekend as most of the electronics should be here too, so i can start to think about placement and wiring

I managed to find a bit more time before work and decided to have ago at milling the slots in the top plate. I made a bit of a mess of the first slot as the mill end bounced a little, it's only slight and will be covered by the battery anyway.

Couldn't resist a test fit.

Thanks guys.
It's probably going to be another few weeks before its in the air. There are a few bits and pieces that I've still got to order and quite a lot of work to do on the electronics side of the build mainly with adding the OSD.
Let's see what the postman brings tomorrow I'm hoping for a load of packages in the morning.

Yes I'm flying if the weather and free time every sync up. Today's been a great afternoon for flying but I've not been able to get out so I've been pottering around with this project.

Some more stuff came today.

I've had a bit of a soldering session this afternoon. Attached the extra pins to the flip32+ for the OSD and did some of the cleanflight programming, started to prep the motor wires, removing the bullets and extending the cables, desoldered the motor wires from the esc's.
