Post by Lee »

A local guy brought his ROV in for repair this week.
He uses it to inspect hulls of ships.
Weight is 70kg.

That's pretty cool! I've always wondered...what kind of motors are used to turn the props? Is it a special type of motor that can be run in water without shorting out?

Most normal brushless motors can be run in water Derek, the bearings are the biggest issue.

I did not know that. I just figured "electronics + water = BAD"...ie, magic smoke, lol. With the bearings, is that just a matter of proper lubrication?

Pretty much Derek, very regular maintenance sounds like the key.
