Gaui X3 face lift

Post by murankar »

So as the title suggrst I have made some more purchases that will give me the final look. Now I do have a few more things to change but for now this purchase will complete it for now. So If your wondering what i did here it is, its not much but it will be so cool, I think.

What got upgraded or added:

The motor: the Scorpion HK 2221-3595 will work on this kit but it is not ideal. SO I went and got the scorpion 2520-3500 motor which is the intended motor for this kit.

Blades: I hat the 325mm blades, so I got a set of Zeal orange electric blades. I love the 360 blades.

Spare parts: not much to talk about they are spare parts. LAnding struts, canopy mounts, extra battery trays, main gears and auto gears.

Canopy: I got a replacement stock canopy and wait for it: The boom cover. Yes I got the boom cover I am so stoked about this. the boom should be a lot easier to see. I also like that I can get rid of the boom braces and the horizontal stab. Not really needed for performance so why have them.

So upgrade done. Took about 20 minutes even with doing the dremmel work on the canopy. Two small notches where the canopy and boom meet had to be removed. The assembly is 6 screws on the boom mount, remove the tail output box and remove the horizontal stabilizer with boom supports. Slide on the cover insert the provided foam insert and reassemble the output box. Really liking the new boom cover. Test flight in the morning.

I hope this weekend to get video. Yeah happy is an under statement. I cant wait to see the X3 in the air. It seems to look bigger now with the boom cover.

The only thing I dont like is how they left the very end by the tail box. I wish they would have made it look more transitional or engineered a way to mount the tail box to the cover. For what it is it does look a lot better though.

Thank you.

Yeah about that. I got the re maiden is done. I was on break at work and got a flight in. I did not come prepared to attach the phone to my hat. Maybe this weekend.

It looks a lot better in the air. Now I need to tune again. Oh and I have to order more gears for back up.

Okay ya'll going to kick me off of here now or ban me. Anyhow I go to the baseball field right out my back door. Beautyful day for flying with some wind 0-5 mph gusts sunny and cool. SO I got my phone strapped to my head like i have done in the past, this time no mount for the phone. I was trying to see if I could get footage with out my wooden block strapped in my hat. So I get everything set, hit record and start flying. Everything was going well except my sun glasses really need to be replaced so I land and take them off. The sun was mostly to my back anyways so what do I have to lose. Go back up and I am just loitering around since the field is still a bit to small for me and my comfort level.

Well during the flight my finger bumped a switch, the motor idle switch. The motor is not quite off but not quite on either, almost a throttle hold. So she starts floating to the ground. I was to high for an auto for this air frame and all I could do is watch it fall to the ground. Luckily for me the only things I lost are a servo arm and possibly a set of metal gears in the servo. I will need to tear the servo apart to know for sure if the servo is toast or needing just gears.

So I come home download the video and bam no heli in frame for the entire video segment. So right now I think I will be down for a couple weeks on the Gaui till I get some gears and horns in. Wow I just spent almost a $100 USD on spare parts and not a single set of servo gears or horns were bought. So next pay when I assemble a list of spares to order I will add some servo gears and horns. Time to work out the 180X and I will need to start stock piling a bunch of spares for that too.

SO the servo gears are fine. I broke the output shaft on the servo. Not sure if thats fixable. SO I guess Ill just order new servo and see what can be done with this old one.
