Lee's FPV Glider flights

Post by Lee »

Finally got the docking station for the Mobius.
Took it for a test run in our field.
I will go into more detail in my mobius docking station thread.
For now, here is the first two flights with the easy glider.

Just as I arrived at the ridge to fly, a flock of thermal soaring vultures, were circling above.
More than 200 of them. But by the time I had the glider ready, they had gone :(
I'm sure i'll get another chance to fly with them.

Very nice flying Lee, those are the quietest flights I've heard so far...lol, did you never use prop to get you back up? Sorry about not commenting but I've never been on much..

In La Hoya Cali, they have a place like that for hang gliders because of the up lift. They jump off the cliff with their glider and i bet you would have a blast over there with your RC glider and FPV. They do whale watching from that point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxYMyMKsRVU

I use to go paragliding off the cliffs in Palos Verdes when I lived in Los Angeles.

Sunday was a very hard day.
Flew my glider at a new location. Unfortunately, my spotter (wife :D ) lost sight of the glider.
I decided to come back and land, but got behind a rocky out crop, and lost video signal, followed quickly by radio.

After a few expletives, and running around like a headless chicken :) we got in the car and went to have a look for it.
Not knowing where, I just drove in the direction I guessed it was going.

I got no RSSI signal, so we were either going the wrong way, or the battery had unplugged.
We were just about to give up, when a couple of guys asked if we were looking for a plane. :D
Passing us a pair of binoculars, we spotted it half way down a hill in a eucalyptus forrest.
It was shear luck that these two guys in the middle of nowhere, saw it go down.
Unfortunately, it was at the top of a 30ft tree :(

Well, after more than two hours of frustration, and throwing stones, and sticks at it, I took the bit between my teeth and climbed the tree coconut style :)
With no branches for the first 15ft, I was knackered by the time I got up there.

Got the plane down, but canopy, Mobius dock, and Mobius were not to be seen :(
Another 30mins searching, in thorny thick bush, and we found it.
OMG!!!! the Mobius wasn't in the dock!!!!
Could it get any worse.
But my beautiful wife with her beady eye spotted it in a bush covered with leaves :D

So apart from one slightly damaged wing, we recovered everything.
And most important, the camera, and the footage.
Check it out.

Nice flight, so much more relaxing than a hectic proximity dash with an FPV MiniQuad, until the end that is. :D
So lucky to get it back, you have to call it luck, I doubt you would have found it without that help.
I can't wait for the wind (and rain now) to die down here so I can finally FPV my AXN again.
It is supposed to be Summer over here. :)
