You are probably doing what's right for you, you can already fly a plane well and you now have some FPV experience.
Why not put the 2 together.
Good luck, we will be looking forward to the videos.
Just remember that when you decide to give quads another go we'll be right here to help. :)
I couldn't have said it better, myself. :D Although the weather here is unfavorable right now, I would still like to get some FPV flying in this Fall and hopefully during the winter, too. Although the winter months are cold, we do get those odd days when there's snow on the ground, but as long as the wind isn't howling, it's not horribly cold. I gotta get one of those transmitter muffs to cover my hands. I'll see what I can get done.

I was at my local hobby shop yesterday and I found out that two of the guys that work there and a few of their friends are flying fpv mini quads. I had no idea. I thought they were strictly heli-guys. I got talking with them about different quads and such. They cheerfully invited me to come fly with them when the weather is flyable. That being said, I came home and began to look over my two quads. I think my previous quad, Echo290, can be repaired and revived (to be continued in it's own thread). I got looking at the second quad still not named at this point in time) and it resparked my excitement for the mini quads. I've done some new soldering, shortened up some wires, flashed the esc's with blheli, installed the FPV system, tidied up the FPV wires, flashed the latest Cleanflight to the Naze32, etc, etc. Everything it working properly except one. The "Arming" feature in the "Modes" tab. I want to be able to arm the quad with the Gear switch. I have the flight modes (Acro is Pos1, Horizon is Pos2, Angle is Pos3) on the Flaps/AUX1 switch. I can see the flight modes are working in the Receiver tab and the Modes tab. I'm just missing the Arming feature.

On my DX8, in the Switch Select, this is what I see:

Gear:Gear
Flap:Aux1
everything else is INH

Does the Gear need to be set to Aux2?

That would work if you assign gear as aux 2 in your TX and then assign arm as aux 2 in clean flight.

It sounds like your going to be having some mini quad fun when the weather improves

I'm very much hoping for some good FPV quad fun when the weather improves. Especially now that I know I have at least 2 other people that I can fly FPV with. I've flown fpv planes and fpv quads but those flights were always with only 1 model in the air at a time. Being able to fly with other fpv'ers will be a new and exciting experience. I'm sorely tempted to buy a new frame because I just noticed some cracks in the square carbon fiber arms that I have on this quad. Time will tell.

Flying FPV with others brings a whole new dimension to the fun you can have with these things.
Even though you have no intention of racing, It somehow becomes one.
Being able to follow another quad for a while is fun too.
