Re: Something a bit more relaxing (or maybe not........)
ive not had much luck this weekend, ive been doing battle with the micro minimosd that i got for this build, without the osd beautiful crystal clear video with or without the motor running
with the video feed going through the osd beautiful video but no overlay, this has had me baffled for the last 3 days. turned out that some of the legs on the osd video chip wernt solders down and some of them didnt even meet the chip solder pads
i tried to repair the board but with my limited soldering skills ended up cooking it instead, its now gone in the bin, ive ordered a replacement board but not a micro version as i think the QC on these products are rubbish at the moment. ive also ordered a couple of packs for this bird 2 x 4000mah 3s packs http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=64796. these are one of the recommended packs for this aircraft.

Need to use solder paste on those SMD chips. Can't just hit it with an iron like through hole components. If there's already solder there you can try pressing the part to make contact with the pads and then hold the iron just off the pins. Can't make direct contact and may need to put some heat blocking material on the chip itself while doing this to help keep it from heating up too much.

Re: Something a bit more relaxing (or maybe not........)
New OSD arrived this morning, it's been inspected flashed and installed and worked straight out of the packet. The last thing I've got to do for this build is make a rssi conditioning circuit as I'm having issues with the pmw input/delta 8, I've read online that the voltage on the pmw rssi output is low and gives a false or no reading so the work around is to install a conditioning filter.

Re: Something a bit more relaxing (or maybe not........)
The multi star packs I ordered from hobby king arrived today.
They are the same width and length as 2200mah 3s but they are a little bit taller and fit in the battery bay perfectly.
The AUW of this bird with its new packs is 1126g, and the prop I eventually chosen to put on it should give around a 1:1 thrust ratio (woohoo vertical climb out). And I'm hoping for 25 minute + flight time. I'm hoping to get in a full electronic maiden in over the weekend, this flight will be LOS, but with FPV gear recording so that I can review the flight data post flight. To ensure all navigation components are working as expected.
I'm very excited to fly this bird now, I just hope the weather holds out until weekend.

Adding rssi RC filter
I've got around to making the re filter for the rssi pwm to analogue conversion. This circuit take the digital pwm 5v out put and converts it to 0-3.3v analogue signal
It's comprised of a 1k resistor and a 10uf capacitor, a servo lead and some heat shrink.
Covered and ready to install and test.

The ground and signal side go to the rx and the single signal goes to pin 2 on the naze next to the ppm input pin, pin 1.

Re: Something a bit more relaxing (or maybe not........)
ive got everything wired up and working, sort of. The rssi scaling needs a bit of work and i need to check the battery voltage scale is correct other than that its looking good.
heres a short video of OSD testing, sorry for the quality of the video it was dark outside so the image is a bit noisy

Re: Something a bit more relaxing (or maybe not........)
I've done a full systems check tonight as the weather report for tomorrow isn't to bad.
Everything is ready to go apart from the OSD so I'm looking to do an electronic maiden tomorrow. Hopefully the OSD will turn up in the morning so it can be quickly flashed and installed.
The final specs for this build are
Multistar 3s 4000mah
Rc timer 30amp esc
Hobbywing 5a bec
Rmrc dodo
Savox sh0257mg
Minimosd (when it arrrives)
Neo m8n gps
700tvl Sony ccd
Lumiere 200mw vtx

Re: Something a bit more relaxing (or maybe not........)
I'm not having much luck with this bird. OSD arrived this morning, DOA I opened the bag and tipped it out on the bench and the video chip fell off.
I've contacted the shop and sent photos of the board.
I did try to fly this bird without the OSD but couldn't get it in the air, as soon as I increased the throttle after throwing it it roll uncontrollably and I was unable to get control in the air.
I think that the 9x6 prop generates to much torque and that is what's making it roll when throttle is applied I'm going to cut the prop down to 8x6 and see if I can gain control with that.
In my launch attempts one of the wings has separated slightly from the fuse which I have repaired with some hot glue.
I'm hoping that the weather is good to me tomorrow and I can attempt another launch with the modified prop.
