Re: Derek's Delta Wing With Naze32

Post by Derek »

I've messed around with this project again. Much easier now that I have a new laptop and I can do the programming and esc calibration in the garage. Anyway...after making some progress and getting everything set up and calibrated, I move the elevator and aileron stick to move the control surfaces and the servo/control surface throw is pathetic. In Cleanflight, it says to set the servo travel (low and high) to 1000 and 2000, with 1500 being in the middle. I've done that but the servos move only slightly. Disappointing! I did get curious and I got another rx, another esc and I bound the 2nd rx to a blank profile on my DX8. I unplugged one of the servos from the Naze32 and connected it to the Elevator channel on the 2nd rx. I moved the Elevator stick full up and full down and now I get more than 45 degrees of servo travel, up and down. For some reason, the Naze32 is limiting my servo travel.

Any ideas why and any ideas on what I can do about this?

Something that is odd is that I can tip the Delta Wing forward, backward, left, and right and the control surfaces move quite a bit (in the appropriate correctional directions). They just don't move very much when I give stick inputs.

Switch the stabilisation off, I think it's called pass through, or to acro and try again Derek.
I think from memory the Naze limits throws in full auto level modes (angle and horizon) but not so much on acro and not at all with stabilisation off.

WOW...we are on the 5th page of this thread and I still haven't gotten this wing in the air. I ended up taking the Naze32 off the wing to use it for something else. I've recently gotten a Flip32 fc for CHEAP and decided to put it on the wing instead of just letting it sit in the parts bin. Now, I've got it all wired up and then disappointment. The servos don't work at all. I know they are functioning servos because they were tested before I began this. The fc arms and the motor does turn but the servos aren't even making a sound. Usually, they make some kind of noise that lets me know they are getting power.....but I get nothing. Here is a rough schematic of how I have this set up. Maybe you guys can point out what I'm missing.

the esc wires are connected to the PWM 1 pins, with the ground wire to the outside pin (this is working properly, the motor does turn) The two signal wires, from the esc's, are connected to the inside pins at PWM 3 and 4. A guy, on Facebook, said that I needed a common ground going from the bec voltage out to a ground on the Flip32....so, I've done that. With and without the ground wire....no noise from the servos.

What am I missing here, guys?

Additionally, I have tested the PWM rail with my multimeter and I am getting 5.2 volts there. I am getting 6v at the bec voltage output (I can set it for 5v or 6v, I have it set for 6v)....this is where the servos are soldered to the bec.

I sure do hate to say this but it's become time to let this thread die. I've tried and tried to get my servos to work with the Flip32 flight controller but I've gotten no where with it. I've simply decided to remove the flight controller and just install an OrangeRx receiver and just connect the servos to the rx. I'll just fly the lil wing without an fc. It's really unfortunate because I was really hoping to have some stabilization on this zippy lil wing. After adding new servo connectors to the servo wires, installing and binding the rx, both servos are working properly. I even did a range check and this plane is ready to go, despite the loss of the fc. Oh well....I've got other things that need worked on. I'm just done messing with this thought. Time for new thoughts, lol.
