Omnibus F4 V2 FC and Multiple Channel Usage

Post by Derek »

Ok guys....I have had a thought and I'm not sure how this is gonna work out. I'm planning on putting an Omnibus F4 V2 flight controller, with Inav, on my Gemini V2 build. There are pin locations, on the FC, for the usual channels (one pin location for each motor, one pin location for each aileron, elevator, rudder). This will use up all available pinouts for the fc.

The problem is that I need two more channels for a pan and tilt fpv camera pod, two more channels for servos for cargo droppers, and another channel for the air brakes. So, we have a serious problem. It's quite obvious that I'll need to get a Frysky tx, of some sort....and obviously my beloved DX8 isn't going to be up to the task.

Can you guys help me come up with a solution?

....or, is there a better solution than using an Omnibus with Inav?

Essentially, I need to be able to use those channels and I'll need a switch to enable a few different flight modes, as well as RTH and Loiter.

I sure do hope you guys can help!!!

I'm still looking around (when time allows, lol) for a solution.

The Omnibus will control the throttle (twin motors), ailerons (one pinout each), rudder, and elevator. Flight modes would be on one switch. RTH and loiter modes on a switch. All those would be able to be in a normal installation that I'm use to. From here is where i don't know what to do. I need to have two switches available for two cargo dropper servos. I need two channels for the pilots pan and tilt fpv camera. I need two channels for the co-pilots pan and tilt fpv camera. So, on top of the usual Omnibus installation, I need 6 additional channels. Nope...I take that back....the co-pilots pan and tilt will be on a seperate receiver. So...On top of the usual Omnibus installation, I need 4 additional channels.

It's obvious that I'm going to need a Taranis tx or the new Spektrum iX12...but at $600, I don't think I'm getting the iX12, lol.

I think I found the solution that will meet all my needs. This will require a Taranis X9D transmitter and an X8R receiver. I hope that the same procedure can be used for the longer range L9R receiver. Anyway, this video was really helpful. It shows how the SBUS can be used to operate the flight controller features and then use the PWM pins to operate servos and such. Too Cool!!!

Why do you need the ailerons on different channels? Why not single channel and y-cord them? Sure you may not be able to program brakes or flaperons, but it saves you the cost of buying a new Tx and Rx. Unless you're just looking for an excuse to spend some money. :)

Im planning on using Inav flashed to the Omnibus. In Inav, each aileron and each of the two motors have their own required channel. If i werent planning on using the flight stabilizer, a simple Y harness would simplify things.

I already had plans of buying a Taranis for other projects and im going to need it so that i can have use of more channels than my DX8 will do.
