Low RPM Power Protection

Post by Derek »

So I finally got my Dads 450 quad working. It was due to this one little box being checked in the BLHeli Configurator. It was the "Low RPM Power Protection." I've not seen this on any of my other quad builds. Can someone explain to me what this is and why would it be a needed thing?

Some ESCs have a feature where if a motor is blocked or bogged down, the ESC will shut down. When you load down a motor, it draws more current. In an extreme case, this will burn out the motor and/or destroy the ESC. So imagine you've crashed your copter and a prop is blocked, and for whatever reason, the throttle is up. A fire is imminent. This safety feature will shut down the ESC before that happens.

That's what I assume Low RPM Power Protect is.
