Dustin's Blade 450 3D Update

I've been working all weekend. Haven't had time to work on the helicopter. Now I am off for two days and I'll start with replacing the servo, as previously planned. Matthias mentioned that he had a gyro that he wasn't using and he sent it to me.

Tony I think Derek just wanted to use a better gyro more up to date one, the G210 eflight doesnt offer alot of opitions to setup a knob and two switches, but the g790 has more setup options

If it were my helicopter, I would definitely run the GP790 over the G210.

Ok, here is an update and I'm going to keep the profanities here at my house and not on the forum. I am fully pissed off now and it's probably entirely my fault.

In previous my previous comments, I said that I was just going to order an Align DS426mg servo for the tail on Dustin's helicopter. Instead, I bought a Corona DS919mg servo from HK. The servo gets here and I installed the new servo today and the servo does not work. I tried the Corona servo on one of my planes and it does not work. I was trying to save a few dollars by not buying an Align servo and I'm back to square one. Now, I've bought these servos before and they have all worked. I have over 50 purchases from HK and this is the first time that I've received a bad part. Thankfully the servo only cost me $8, so the only real loss is my time.

I'll have to wait until this weekend to order a new servo and it will be the Align DS426mg tail servo.

Tony, I'll see about shipping that Eflight servo to you this weekend. I may even include this "new" Corona servo that doesn't work at all.

Also...just to be sure that the rudder functions were still working properly, I did plug in my Hitec servo (that I mentioned before) and I do get servo movement when I move the rudder stick and when I move the gyro, the servo does move. It's a shame that the Hitec servo that I have, and functions properly, isn't suitable for a tail servo. I think the speed would be too slow. The link below shows the specs for the Hitec servo that I've been using for testing. The speed is only .14/60 degrees. To my knowledge, tail servos should be faster than that. The Corona 919mg servo specs show .06. Much faster. The DS426mg servo specs show .07 at 4.8v and .05 at 6.0v.

I'm sorry for the delay Dustin. I was just trying to save a few dollars. I should have just bought the DS426mg to start with.

OMG Derek, that's horrendous, can you believe that man... Your having shit luck with this blade...

The proper servo for that blade is the DS76T, this has a speed of 0.03 seconds/60 @ 4.8volt. I wish I had one coz I'd send you it. 0.14/60 is far too slow for a tail.

It really doesn't pay to try and save a bit of cash does it, saying that the servo should have at least worked...

Just put the ds76t on the tail of the 250 and yes it seems quick but not the best for the torque,

Look at the KST 215mg its a cyclic servo and will work on the tail, it's 0.6 speed and good torque, and at $25 not as bad price, don't know how much you can get the align one for though

The tail servo that I bought "was" a ds76t servo.

You must have got a dodgy one Derek, I've had 2 of those in the past and they've worked great on my 450 3D.. They just don't like being ploughed into the deck... Lol

To bad about that. Hey win some loose some, that's what its all about. Your lucky you got that many orders without any bum parts, consider yourself lucky. Don't worry about it so much, it will get done and soon you'll be working on another project.

I think I'm just gonna take the DS520 servo off my 450 and put it on Dustin's 450 3D. it's a servo that I know works and I can continue forward progress without having to wait, again, for shipping times. I think my 450 is going to be down for a bit anyway. I want to replace the motor and do some routine maintenance.

I'm hoping to get working on my other project again, lol. I have to finish my rather large 74" scratch build 3D plane, still unnamed, lol. I have to get my Trex 500 repaired and flying again. I have another Trex 500 Pro DFC that I have some "upgrades" planned.....and I have another project in mind that will require it's own thread, lol.

There you plenty of projects. I have 2 but cant make forward progress as of yet. Although I am getting closer to one of them.

Try it see if it works and if it does then you got a decision to make, give up the old servo or wait for the new.

Although, I did order a brand new Align DS426m servo for the tail on Dustins servo, the servo won't get here until next week. Just for laughs, I went to my LHS and I was looking around. I quickly noticed that they got a new supply of servos in stock today. I didn't see any Align servos but they did have a bunch of new $50+ servos. Hmmm, that's a bit more than I wanted to pay, lol. I did see that they had some new Spektrum servos, and a bunch of them, so I got looking at them. I found a brand new metal gear digital servo, the Spektrum A4020. This is a micro tail servo...not quite as fast as the DS76T but very close.

I'm tending to my daughter right now but once she goes to bed, I'll install the new Spektrum servo on Dustin's helicopter.

Today was suppose to be my day off...they called me in to work for 3-4 hours. I was thinking, "Hey....3-4 hours isn't so bad...sure I'll go in." I ended up staying for 9 hours. I'm tired and heading to bed.

So....I slept for nearly 11 hours, lol....but I feel much better. Today is a new day.

I just spoke with Dustin, via Skype, and let him know what I've been up to this morning.

I installed the new Spektrum servo that I bought. Powered everything up and immediately I could hear the tail servo was working. Happy about that! I have hardwood floors in my kitchen so I spooled up the helicopter (without main blades, of course ) and the tail did NOT spin around like it did before. Happy about that. I'd give some rudder input and the tail would move appropriately. Happy about that. Now, I'm not going to get over excited yet but I have plans to go flying today and I'll take the 450 3D with me and see if I can get it to hover. Not getting over excited, but I am optimistic!
