dan's rcx 250 flight log LOS and FPV

Post by danhampson »

I ordered a mini quad from China and it arrived about 8 days later so over the Christmas period I've built the quad and started with some line of sight testing to sort out that gains and to get a general feel for how the quad reacts in flight http://youtu.be/4CH9GRhzpaw

I used your settings as a base and tweaked them a bit here and there.
I've tried flying it in attitude, ratitude, and acro modes and am finding that acro mode feels more natural, feels like a FBL heli. I'm hoping to have some FPV gear to put in it in about a week.

Looking good Dan, yard looks a bit small for FPV though.

I have a trampoline like that for my son.
My ZMR 250 fits under it quite well, most times. :D

I got the chance to do some more work on the acro mode gains today the video is footage of the results. It feels really locked in even in such strong winds (15mph gusting 25mph+) with zero oscillation. very impressed with this board.

After weaning myself off self level recently I strongly believe acro is the only way to fly.
I would suggest self level is probably the way to go while you are first learning FPV as sorting out level is a lot harder looking through a lens.
You can usually let go the right stick and give it some throttle to get you out of trouble. (As long as you are not under something :))
Once you get the hang of FPV you can switch back to acro.

I use a predator V2 and they are pretty good.
I have looked through a friends Skyzones and I am jealous but you get what you pay for.
I did upgrade the camera on my mini to a 600tvl from Surveilzone, made what I thought was already pretty good even better.

At $35 US it wasn't too expensive and the difference, especially in low light is massive.
You can get better ones but much more expensive for a little better quality.

Yeah can wait to get the fpv gear on it. I'm hoping to order it this coming Friday that way it should be with me for Monday. I will have to record my flights with my sj4000 strapped to the quad until I can get a mobius.

Once you have flown that thing FPV, I'll almost bet you will rarely fly it LOS.
FPV opens up a whole new world.
The only time I fly mine LOS now is if I have changed something that I want to test before flying FPV.

I'm thinking that once I've flown fpv I won't want to fly anything line of sight. Lol I was pretty much sold on the idea when I strapped my sj4000 to my wot 4 foam - and watched the video back. Lol.

Once I had flown my mini quad FPV, I just had to strap the FPV gear to my AXN and have a go.
I loved it, totally different to the quad, much more relaxed.
