Training proposal
So the RC Heli Nation crew are doing something different this year and are aiming for quality over quantity in their internal annual competition. To that end, to get their listeners involved and to help them progress too, they have produced a 7 level training/rating system.

http://www.rchelination.com/rchn-pilot- ... y-program/
I too am intent on progressing this year. 2014 was something of a year of stagnation as far as my flying went. Didn't get out flying anywhere near as much as I wanted and I didn't really improve much at all, aside from doing some auto-rotation landings toward the end of the season.
So this year I'm thinking I'm going to take on the program and actually try to improve my piloting skills. To this end I'll be simming quite at bit through the rest of the winter and probably throughout the year. And so I'm thinking, "Others want to improve too, maybe they'd be up for some friendly competition on the Hangout?"
So anyone interested? Maybe pick out a target level you want to make by the end of the year. Video proof of completed maneuvers posted in a flight thread. We'll host some weekly or every other week RC-Hangout sessions on Phoenix and Realflight where people can practice, get some tips, show off, etc.
Anyone down?

Re: Training proposal
I am definitely hoping for some improvements this year. Without a doubt, I made some great improvements in 2014. Not just with my flying but also my confidence in myself. On the sim, when I'm not screwing around and doing dumb stuff, I can actually fly pretty well. Translating all that to my own helicopters wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Once I realized that, I dropped my guard a bit more and I was able to push my helicopters a bit harder and still bring them home in one piece (with the exception of one 450 crash that was 100% dumb thumb, lol).
I'd be very excited to meet up with the Hangout members on the Phoenix sim, from time to time. However, due to my work schedule, I won't be online as much as I'd like.
I'm going to be ordering some more batteries between now and Spring (I hope) so that I can get some more flying time. I sure do enjoy it.

Forget the competition part. I was searching for a better term that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Just looking to see if anyone wants to get on the program with me and maybe setup a weekly or every-other-week scheduled sim time for some peer pressure and help.

Re: Training proposal
Tony the whole reason for this is to help us get better. This is a competition on RCHN so maybe thats where we get that part. For Us its more of a "goals for the season" road map. Okay here is the guide lines for level one and level two:
Now for some one like you and me, Tony we would have to complete level on before advancing to level 2. Now the whole point of this is to get better and progress. I personally would like to get into level 2 by the end of the summer.

Re: Training proposal
It probably wouldn't be a bad idea at all for me to work on the level one stuff. I certainly know that I've never done anything as detailed as this. Usually I just get in the air and fly around but to have something as structured as this....I'm interested.
And Tony....no worries about any type of "competition". I think it would just be fun to work on this stuff and just progress at our own pace. I've seen you fly on the sim. You aren't that bad. I've seen your flight videos. You aren't that bad. Sometimes bad things happen and that's just the way it is. In fact, these practices will, undoubtedly, help you with your mini quad.

Re: Training proposal
This should help in all aspects of flying. These are more motor skills and to help train your brain in different perspectives. I too have not got this detailed in my training. This is real close to the IRCHA training school. I have that one somewhere around here in a nice binder. Only thing is you have to be an IRCHA member and trained by a proficient IRCHA member for it to count.

Re: Training proposal
The competition is with yourself Tony, not everyone around you.
Just pick a goal for you to achieve within the scheme.
The way they have set out the comp on RCHN, is for everyone to give a goal to reach by the end of the year. the closest to that goal is the winner.
So you can be a complete beginner and still win the competition.
So now we have to be honest and set ourselves goals to reach.
I think I will start to come unraveled at level 4.
So my goal for the year is Level 5 +20 manoeuvres from level 6
Don't forget each manoeuvre has up to four orientations. Each one counts as one move.
For those of us that fly alone, I think video evidence should be enough to show you can do it.

Re: Training proposal
Ok guys, I've read the PPP for part 1 and 2, and I think both these should be achievable within a 12 month period. So my goal is to reach and be competent up to level 2. I think I may need the sim setup correctly too, so if there's any "how to" guides on this I'd appreciate a link.. Also can you use any heli you wish or is this fixed..?
Looking forward to getting some practice in, and reaching some goals...
is this solely on the sim, or real life flying too?

Real life flying for it to count.
Def get the sim going. Absolute must I'd say. If you need help setting up a sim start a thread in the simulator forum asking about the one you have and the transmitter you have, etc.
Use any CP heli you want.

Re: Training proposal
I'm sure you are going to have a heli within the next year.
Just practice practice on the sim, so when you do get the heli again, you'll be a pro.
I just did level 1,2 and 3 on the sim. I fly better in real life than on the sim

Re: Training proposal
Just use the sim. Yeah it won't count but you'll still learn the muscle memory. A lot of the stuff in level 1 and 2 can be done on a quad. Albeit easier but you can still learn the motions.
