AccuRC sim
Well after chatting to Lee about this sim and looking at it on their website, my daughter is going to buy me it for my 60th birthday in December, no doubt I'll nag her enough to give me it earlier...lol
Anyone got one of these sims, it looks absolutely awesome, recon one can learn loads from this

Re: AccuRC sim
Seen this before Tony and i thought it was gimmicky, graphics dont look brilliant, but thought it was a good idea for building models:)

The videos looked brilliant for setting a heli up and then test flying it, tweaking settings etc... Well I want it.. Haha, got the phoenix but you can't change servos etc...

I have drooled a bit on that software But seeing I have Phoenix already and I need my $$$ for plenty other projects, I'll have to wait a bit longer You'll of course post a full review when you have it in hand, Tony?

I think one thing is that its a power hog. Needs logs of resources for it to work smooth.

Hopefully my laptop will cope, its got an i5 3rd gen processor with 8gig ram, could be a good excuse to get a new one i guess.murankar wrote:I think one thing is that its a power hog. Needs logs of resources for it to work smooth.

Re: AccuRC sim
Yeah, I picked that up early on.
It is, hands down, the best at simulating real world "feel" of a heli. And it does it without so much as needing to tweak a single setting on most models (there was a bug on the Trex 700 models where they reacted oddly, which I think they've since fixed).
It is also nice to tweak, because you are tweaking virtual FBL settings that are similar to what you would on a normal FBL. You are swapping out components (ESC, motors, batteries, servos, horns, blades, etc.) that are fully modeled after real world items. IT is all very natural to use from that standpoint. The "Workshop" view where you can spin it all around, remove canopy and zoom in where you like and it is all live to your controls and linkages all move, etc. etc. It is pretty impressive.
That said, it is a resource hog. On my i7 laptop it is great. On my i3 theater room PC it can't get out of it's own way, even on lowest settings there is latency in the controls and everything is sluggish feeling.
Graphics on medium to high settings, for the models, is pretty damned good. And their recent work on updates and models (Agile model in particular) is a big step up from what was already good stuff. On low settings, well the quality is low, of course. The backgrounds/scenes are not the best and very limited in selection. Camera/view options are a bit limiting too.
Integration with the transmitter, in terms of using throttle curves in particular, is way lagging competition. Last I used it (pre-updates) you had to use keyboard keys to select normal, idle up, and hold. Just very clunky and annoying.
And my big gripe with it... the user interface blows. It feels like using a CAD program from the late 80's early 90's. The whole way they have the model library and your person hangar setup and how you create and edit models, select models. It is hugely clunky and non-intuitive.
I have not tried their updates as of yet, so some or all of this negative stuff may have changed. Once we get this site up and going I'll get the updates and do a proper review and comparison to Pheonix and RF.

Re: AccuRC sim
That's brilliant info Paul, appreciated. Still sounds like a really good sim.. Does it have a large selection of servos, ESC's etc to play with. I notices in one of the videos it had a range of blades to put on it.. I wondered if you could put under rated components on a heli and see what would happen, like maybe a 20amp ESC on a 700 heli.. I'm hoping I can make up a heli that's the duplicate of mine, then maybe swap for better parts. Like a more powerful motor and different toothed pinions...
Time will tell, I'm sure you will do a much better review than me....lol, look forward to that

Re: AccuRC sim
So they added the Agile now, eh? That might change my priorities a bit. Hmmmmpvolcko wrote:...And their recent work on updates and models (Agile model in particular) is a big step...
Re: AccuRC sim
They've been working on a new modeling method and new texture handling and doing while working on a new Agile 700 size heli model, I think. Trying to get the precision and quality of the models up without blowing up the poly counts. They were already good. They're obviously making a play for more realistic models, aero modeling and at model graphics on the block. Probably will succeed too. Not sure there is a big enough market for it though.
With the new texture modeling, though, they will be allowing users to do custom canopies and color schemes. The models themselves are laborious efforts requiring high precision 3D scanners, lots of measurements, etc. Along with manufacturer detail info that goes way beyond the usual spec sheets for parts such as blades. Servos they need detailed scans/models of, but performance wise they can do some simple tests and be able to model it accurately enough.
Selection of components: blades had the most options. ESC was limited to one or two if I remember right. FBL was one option, their "generic" virtual FBL. Servos had a number of options. Horn setup (different hole positions). A few battery options too.
This was at least a few months ago now. again, they may have released updates with more stuff since then.

i noticed in the hangar on AccuRC there was no 450 size helicopters, so i emailed them, got a reply off Ashley saying they have a 450 model that there working on at the moment, so future updates will include the 450 sizes... good news there for me anyway...
